Rape culture is the fact that a cartoon skunk habitually making unwanted sexual advances on his female companion, is socially accepted, and is considered to be an endearing and comedic piece of children’s material.
No.
Rape culture would be a parent not explaining to their child that what the silly skunk on TV did was wrong, and you should never treat another human being like that; if someone says “No!” or “Get away!” you respect their privacy and leave them alone. My Mom had that exact conversation with me when I was in 3rd grade.
I sincerely doubt Chuck Jones created Pepe Le Pew with the intentions of brainwashing billions of developing children into subconsciously thinking that rape is socially permissible and funny.
I believe this issue falls on neglectful parenting and a number of other social failures that are prevalent during a child’s development. Not Merrie fucking Melodies.
i know what happened
She was just created to be the sexy female character
And they changed her into a goofy lovable crazy funny character
THAT’S WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!
what happened: she stopped existing solely for you to wank to
Didn’t they make her entire existence in the new show to pine after Bugs?
I hate to break it to you, but original Lola’s entire existence was ALSO to hook up with Bugs. The only difference is we had to hear her catchphrase for 20 minutes first.
The very first time I watched an episode with new Lola I was torn because she was so obviously the funniest, best character on the whole show, but yeah she had a lot of character traits that were all over-exaggerated stereotypes of women. However, the Looney Tunes tradition is to have looney characters who are sort of terrible people, so she just fits in now and isn’t a token character devoid of personality. If anything her new personality kinda lampshades the “female character that just exists as a romantic interest” stereotype because Bugs thinks she is two maracas short of a mariachi band a good deal of the time and wants nothing to do with her. Her character traits COULD have come across as sexist and obnoxious very easily, but the show’s writing and Kristen Wiig as her voice actor made her just comedy gold.
Lets not forget that she has a good heart on the show, goes above and beyond for others, especially Bugs, is tenacious, still a badass when she wants to be, and yeah, is the funniest fucking character on the show. She’s not perfect, but she’s still awesome.
I like to think Lola is an adaptable character. In the Space Jam movie she was a perfect adittion, the star player (besides Jordan) and was meant to be some kind of female role model. She wouldn’t have worked like that in the Looney Tunes Show, a show that relies on comedy dialogues and performance, hence I fully agree with the reasons stated above.
BOTH are great in their respective backgrounds. To compare them is simply pointless.
Keep in mind that these were the same people who nominated Cars 2 in place of a sequel that actually did have heart.
I’m really——-
there isn’t an image for how angry I am right now?? There isn’t one, there never will be
>Frankenweenie
>Not Paranorman
Golden Globes confirmed for shit taste in stop-motion
FRANKENWEENIE OVER PARANORMAN? Really? Reeeeaaaaaaaaaaalllllllyyyyyyyyyyy?
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugggggggghhhhhhhh
Here’s a good reason why: http://www.cartoonbrew.com/events/the-golden-globe-nominees-and-why-frankeweenie-will-probably-win-74728.html
I was mentally preparing myself but tbh i just want to punch things and cry.
Why is Hotel Transylvania in red, is that the one we’re supposed to go “omg how could they pick over Paranorman” because… that movie actually is really rad and arguably features the best cg character animation on the list
Paranorman should definitely be in over Frankenweenie though, because as much as I enjoyed Frankenweenie (I thought it was great!!) I don’t think its “Best of the Year Nominee” material. Hearing it’ll probably win because of how the Globes works is disappointing.
I totally agree with the last comment.
And Paranorman doesn’t deserve the Golden Globes, it deserves the Oscars.
Don’t ever tell me that cartoons these days suck.
When I made this, I was trying to show what these cartoons have, and still are doing for people. They’ve helped create friendships and maybe even relationships. They’ve made people feel like they are a part of something. Like they belong somewhere. I made this post to show others that they’re not just cartoons, they’re something better. Something special. These aren’t the only cartoons that have done these wonderful things for people, but it was enough to get the point across. These cartoons, and many others have connected so many people in so many ways. That is something you can not take from someone, no matter how much you dislike it. So no, MLP Stays. Sure, their fandom is a bit weird sometimes, but newsflash, ALL FANDOMS ARE LIKE THAT! A few bad apples dosen’t change the fact that this form of media is as strong as ever, and is not declining like some people would tell you. The cartoons of the past were great, and I love them, but I also love the new ones. Just because you didn’t connect with a certain cartoon, dosen’t mean someone else didn’t connect with it. It’s those connections that makes cartoons special. It’s what makes ALL cartoons special.
Now, allow me to repeat myself.
Don’t ever tell me that cartoons these days suck.
in fact
Don’t ever tell anyone their favorite cartoon sucks.
It’s special to someone, just as a certain cartoon is special to you.
Instead of showing hate towards someone else’s favorite cartoon, why don’t you show your love for your favorite cartoon? Add a gif or pic of this post, and/or write how a certain cartoon is special to you, or something else, anything else! Anything other then hating on a cartoon. Because all you’re doing is telling someone that what made a wonderful impact on their life, dosen’t matter.
You’re entitled to your opinion, but this post is not the place for opinions on which cartoon is bad. It’s about how awesome cartoons are!
I’ve always been a cartoon fan since I have use of memory, I discovered fandom in the early 00’s by fansites, forums and DeviantArt, which were pretty much the only places I could talk about them with passion. At the time, anime conventions were rising all over the world.
But these last few years the cartoon fandom has been getting VERY significative amount of fans as to match the anime fandom, which was always bigger than the cartoon fandom since they already had meetup events such as conventions where they could see cosplay, not mentioning fanservice material.
Nowadays I see the cartoon fandom has succesfully reached that level, gaining a place at conventions without necesary being comic, anime or videogame. Sure, the themes are subtler, but the most important things are the story and the characters. It doesn’t have to be necessary violent, sexual or too psychological to be likeable for older audiences.
I really dislike people who hate on something you like just because it’s kids-appropiate, aka “childish”. The fact that some people like anime, comics or “hardcore” videogames, doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy something that’s made for, pretty much, everyone.
Also, if fans wanted to see mature themes in their show, they can always write fanfiction, draw fanart, make “headcanons”, anything they think it would happen but couldn’t because of the shows restrictions.
They’re using their creativity, their talent, to express their ideas, breaking the storyline limits. That’s something really precious that need to be shared with people who love the same things as them.
Cartoons don’t have to be only a childhood thing you know.
…what? the only thing they missed are the anvils, dynamites and wabbit seasons xD
maybe they could have make it more wackier? it’s funny but in a sit-comesque style, depending purely on the dialogues and some funny real-life situations, instead of exageration and violence like they used to. I still like it, it’s not violence-funny and crazy-as-hell, but I still like it.
it’s great when little girls want to be the characters they truly admire (specially villains) despite the fact that they’re male. Great post.
Chack feelings

Well someone just answered the first question with another question! XD
Chack: Chase Young x Jack Spicer from Xiaolin Showdown
Those two were the first slash pairing I actually liked back in my old DA days (I’ve seen other slash pairings from my older fandoms… but hmm, let’s just say those were just a bit weird for me… and I was not much into anime therefore I wasn’t into “yaoi” until a year later)
I started shipping them in late highschool, it was 2006. Xiaolin Showdown was NOT my childhood. It’s a 00’s cartoon fandom, along with many others. The difference is that I discovered slash fics in that fandom. Not mentioning Jack helped a lot
Yeah, it’s pretty one-sided but I still like it. It’s adorable.
Beware, here comes a long rant about them…
Ship First, Rationalize Later: lastofthetimeladies: I’m not a sucker for love stories. When I say I...
I’m not a sucker for love stories.
When I say I ship something, I don’t care about the happily ever after. I don’t care about romantic comedies or princess movies with a seamless love arc and a fairytale ending. That isn’t what I’m in it for.
I’m not a sucker for love…
^This. This is why my ships don’t have limits.
Also, loving someone regardless of gender or even species in some cases (I realized that the moment I read slash). Love doesn’t have to be sexual either, it can be purely based on a character relationship with another, including rivalry, friendship (or bromance), partnership for a common goal, master/apprentice, master/minion, hell even I can ship someone who admires another one and the list goes on!
This is also why canon, regular boy/girl pairings don’t really interest us, unless they come with a good plot
Do you need to flirt with every guy you meet?
I like how they made her an awkward-with-guys type of girl. We see so much of teenage guys failing to get girls on TV, and then there’s Mable :D
Not really because of Pokemon. But yeah, relevant.
